Making Transition to School
Enrolments are accepted at any time. However, the sooner children are enrolled the earlier it is possible to plan for the following year.
The selection of a primary school is often a difficult one for parents. We invite you to arrange a tour of our facilities and view our programs in action, to help you to make this important decision. Tours are available every Thursday morning at 9.15, or by appointment. An Information Evening for prospective parents is also held in terms 2 & 3 each year, outlining the educational opportunities available for your child at Boronia Heights.
All children have individual needs and a successful transition program takes into account these needs. In consultation with our network of pre-school teachers, childcare centres and prep teachers, we have devised a coordinated transition program that begins in term 4. Opportunities available for our enrolled preps are:
- 3 informal sessions in mixed groupings that involve playground sessions, specialist sessions and a teddy bear’s picnic
- 3 sessions in the following year’s classroom with their new teacher
- A teacher visit to their kinder or child care centre
- An Information session for new parents to fully explain the transition program
- Get to know you interviews at the beginning of the school year, with the option of a home visit
- A family picnic tea in the first weeks of school to meet other parents
- A Curriculum Information evening for parents to outline the curriculum opportunities for children
Parents who would like to discuss issues relating to their child are invited to make an appointment for an interview with our school Principal, Mark Flack or Early Years Coordinator, Pauline Poole.
Detailed information on transition activities and important dates are sent to enrolled parents in term 3.
