Principal’s Report
Principals Message – Newsletter 5 2026
As we head toward the end of Term 1, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what has been a big and busy start to the year.
This term has been about settling back into routines. New classrooms, new teachers and, for our Preps, starting school for the very first time. Our “Preppies” have made such a positive start, and it’s been lovely to see them gaining confidence each week. Older students have also settled back into school very quickly, reconnecting with friends and getting back into the rhythm of school life at Boronia Heights.
Term 1 is always a busy sporting term, and this year has been no exception. From Cross Country and today’s Athletics Day to District Swimming and Mini Athletics coming up next week for the Prep-2 children, there have been plenty of opportunities for students to get active and have a go. I’ve loved seeing so many parents and students running around the oval in the morning too. It has been great to see students supporting one another, whether they were racing, trying something new, or cheering from the sidelines.
Programs like Harvest to Table, visiting wildlife experiences, wellbeing sessions and guest presenters like Flynn Kroeger have given students something different to talk about at school and hopefully at home too. These moments often spark great conversations amongst the kids and help learning feel real and meaningful.
For our Year 3 and 5 families, NAPLAN has also been part of the term. We know testing can sometimes feel stressful, so we do our best to spread the testing sessions out over two weeks and kept things as calm and normal as possible. Students handled it very well, especially when the system had a “wobbly” moment on the first testing day, so we were proud of the way they approached the experience.
Staying connected and looking after wellbeing continues to be a priority for us. Harmony Day, buddy activities and student leadership events have helped students build connections across the school. Our student leaders have proudly stepped into their roles and are already making a positive contribution. You only need to come to our assemblies to see what great leaders they’ve become.
It has also been a pleasure to welcome so many parents and carers into the school this term. The three-way conferences happening on Wednesday are such an important part of building strong relationships between home and school. Its was terrific seeing so many parent volunteers undertake the classroom helper training course, so thank you for making the time to be involved.
Finally, finishing the term with our Happy Hour Concert and Easter Raffle is a lovely way to come together and celebrate a busy first term. I look forward to seeing you all on Thursday at midday on the front netball court.
