Puffing Billy Excursion

This week our Preps had their first big excursion to Puffing Billy. They caught the bus to Belgrave Station, learnt all about Puffing Billy. They had so much fun travelling on the train to Lakeside Visitor Centre and learnt about the history and people who take care of this special place. Our Preps came back to school with big smiles on their faces and staff were very proud of our students who were fantastic!

School Tours for Prep 2027

I know it’s only June but planning and preparations are well underway to welcome a new group of Prep students and families in 2027. I have been busy conducting school tours twice per week for prospective parents, along with visits to local pre-schools and child-care centres to promote our wonderful school. There is still some availability for school tours, so if you or somebody you know has a child starting school next year and they haven’t done a tour yet, please go to our website https://www.boroniahtsps.vic.edu.au/ and click the School Tours button to organise a visit.

NAIDOC Week

National NAIDOC Week commemorates the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is an opportunity for all Australians to recognise the invaluable contributions First Nations communities have made, while acknowledging the origins of the event as a powerful movement for Indigenous rights and equality.

At Boronia Heights we are introducing the 50 Word Project into our daily yarning circles. Students will learn an indigenous word each week, learn how to say it and try to use it throughout the week. Our Year 2s started early so they already knew words to include during their excursion to Old Joe’s Creek. It was amazing how quickly they learned new words and transferred these words into conversations; we are all so impressed!

In the last week of term, we will be celebrating NAIDOC week with a range of activities in multi-age groups.

Junior School Council- June Fundraiser

This year, our students have spoken and decided that they would like to raise funds for a Junior School Gaga Pit. As you can imagine, this is something that will take us a little while to gather funds for.

They have therefore decided to hold our own Big Freeze day to help towards our goal.

Students can wear anything that keeps them warm- Pjs, Trackies, Oodies etc. The only stipulation is outdoor shoes only, no slippers please. Gold Coin donation.

 We’re thrilled to announce our school has partnered with Cyber Safety Project to offer parents access to the Cyber Safe Parents 2026 Webinar Series. These practical, easy-to-understand sessions, available live or on-demand, will provide simple strategies to help families manage online safety, screen time, AI, and digital wellbeing. Pop these important dates into your calendars now:

On Friday 5^th June, eight lucky BHPS students (Annabelle C 1B, Indie G 1A, Winter M 2D, Magnus R 1B, Phoebe O 2A, Chase P 2D, Grace B 1C, & Emily S 2A) got to run onto AAMI Park with the Melbourne Storm team as the winners of the League Stars sign up promotion.

Year 2 Mini Hoops is now available for parents to sign their kids up for on Compass. A reminder that the program caters for students of all levels of ability and experience. If you have any questions about the program, please email me. We will be looking for some parent helpers to assist with the event day on Friday 31^st July. If you are interested and available, please let me know.

Last week, BHPS proudly welcomed many special visitors and prospective families for our Open Day and Open Night. The Art Room was buzzing with excitement as guests explored the creative opportunities available to our students and experienced firsthand the joy of learning through art.

Together, students, families, and visitors contributed to a collaborative community artwork that celebrates the creativity and connectedness of our school community. The finished piece is now on display near the Year 4 and Year 6 corridor for everyone to enjoy.

Visitors also had the opportunity to interact with the Boronia Lisa, which was a popular feature of the exhibition and sparked plenty of curiosity and conversation.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to visit, celebrate our Art Program, and support our wonderful school. We loved sharing our creative space with you and showcasing the amazing learning that happens at BHPS every day.

Specialist awards- Term 2 Week 2

Welcome back, everyone! We hope you had a wonderful school break and were able to relax and recharge.

At this stage, we do not have any major projects planned for this year, as 2026 will be a maintenance-focused year.
