We have an extensive Physical Education Program here at Boronia Heights Primary School, filled with fun and excitement! We have sequential units in our Physical Education program from Foundation to Year 6 where students develop their skills in game situations and through interactive activities. Weekly lessons are complimented with House Sports and Sports Days, Athletics Carnivals, Cross Country Carnivals, Swimming, Dancing, tabloid sports, sports specific training sessions, PMP (Perceptual Motor Program), Hooptime, summer and winter interschool sports, surf lessons and weekly sport sessions. We have great success over many years with Cross Country and Athletics teams winning District titles and numerous students competing at all levels of competition. The Foundation Physical Education program is filled with many exciting activities that help students develop their Fundamental Motor skills which supports the school’s PMP (Perceptual Motor Program).
Boronia Heights Primary School participates in Year 5 Year 6 Interschool Sports in both Summer and Winter covering a variety of sports. Our teams are very successful in the Interschool sports competitions at district and division level. Junior (grade 3&4) and Senior Grade (5&6) Hooptime basketball is another component of the PE program at Boronia Heights Primary School. A number of teams from Year 3 to Year 6 participate each year with great success.
We also take full advantage of the Sporting Schools Funding Program which is a federal funded initiative which aims at subsidising clinics and sports program for our students to utilise.
We run a school swimming program here at Boronia Heights Primary school, as per the Victorian Curriculum. Where our Foundation, Year 1, 2, 3 and 4 classes travel to Kilsyth Centenary Pool and participate in a swimming program as a part of the PE assessment. The program is run by qualified instructors working through the YMCA Aquasafe Program. Swimming is an important part of the school’s physical education program and proves to be highly successful.
Our Year 5 and 6 classes partake in our Water Appreciation and Safety Awareness Program where they are involved in a Learn to Surf day held at Smith Beach Phillip Island by the Island Surf Company. The program is run by qualified surf instructors working through the surfing Australia Program.
We also run a Physical Education Leadership Program (PELP) for some of our Year 5 and 6 children.The PELP program is a leadership program, developed through challenging sporting activities. The objective of the program is to introduce the children to a great range of challenging experiences. Activities have included Sailing, Tree Surfing and Knee boarding. Boronia Heights Primary School’s Physical Education Program is about Participation, Resilience, Gratitude, Initiative, Sportsmanship, Personal Achievement, Dedication, Leadership, Confidence, Teamwork and Heathy Body and Mind.
